EuroQol PhD Studentship in Health Economics

The London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) is pleased to invite applications for a PhD studentship in Health Economics, funded for four years by EuroQol Group, starting on 20 September 2021.

Research Project:

The topic area relates to the work reported as part of the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research Task Force report on the use of utility data within clinical studies. The exact focus of the project will be developed with the successful candidate but is likely to cover:

  • Exploration of different modelling methods for the analysis of the effects of trial events, and patient drop out on EQ-5D
  • Methods to understand and potentially adjust for confounding from cross-sectional data
  • Different methods to model the temporal nature of the effects of events
  • Approaches to improve the generalizability of clinical trial EQ-5D data to routine practice
  • Use of the Visual Analogue Scale component of the instrument to enhance analyses of the tariff values

Research environment:

The studentship will be based in the Faculty of Public Health and Policy (PHP) which is focussed on the improvement of health throughout the UK and worldwide. We do this through research, teaching and the provision of advice in the areas of health policy, health systems and services, and individual, social and environmental influences on health. Interests and activities embrace the health needs of people living in countries at all levels of development. We encompass the disciplines of epidemiology, public health medicine, economics, political science, international relations, anthropology, sociology, history, psychology, statistics and mathematics. Around 100 of our staff and students undertake health economics research and our economists have a wealth of experience in advising the UK and other national governments, international agencies and organisations.

Award details:

  • Tuition fees (at the LSHTM Home fee rate)
  • A tax-free stipend of £19,800.00 per year (pro-rated for periods and mode of study)
