Exciting PhD opportunities in Coastal Oceanography (UWA Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) PhD Scholarships)

Coastal observations include a variety of tools, both traditional and novel, such as satellites, moored instruments, shore-based systems, and remotely operated vehicles. The Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) is a national collaborative research infrastructure, supported by the Australian Government, which undertakes sustained observations of the oceans and coastal regions around Australia. Almost a decade of IMOS data collected along the WA coast has revealed several physical processes, which were unknown before the observations were initiated. Collection of these data streams are continuing. One of the PhD topics will primarily be concerned with the analysis of surface currents using HF radar, and the other PhD topic will focus on ocean glider data. Integration with supplementary data sets and numerical modelling can also form the basis for the PhD topics.

Additional topics in Coastal Oceanography such as Nearshore processes, numerical modelling and ocean plastics are also available.

The Scholarships are open for International Students.

Scholarship value: AUD $30000 per annum.

Eligibility: Applicants should have completed a Masters, Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (first class or upper second class equivalent) in oceanography, marine science, mathematics, physics or cognitive subjects.
