Faculty of the Environment and Technology (FET) PhD Studentships 2021-2022

An exciting opportunity to apply for 16 full or partially funded PhD positions in the Faculty of Environment and Technology, UWE Bristol.

The expected start dates of these studentships are 1st October 2021 or 1st January 2022.

The closing date for applications is Thursday 1st July 2021.

About the Studentships

FET has a strong and continually evolving research environment. We submitted a significant proportion of our staff to the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF 2021). Our expectation is that the majority of our submitted research is internationally excellent or of world leading quality.

Applications are invited for PhD studentships across areas that are supported by one of the Faculty’s four integrated departments, these are:

  • Computer Science and Creative Technologies (CSCT). REF: 2021-OCT-FET03 Indicative research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Unconventional Computing, Creative Technologies and Music Technology.

  • Architecture and the Built Environment (ABE) . REF: 2021-OCT-FET04 Indicative research interests include Architecture, Design, Product Development, Building Information Modelling, Healthy Cities, Sustainability and Climate Change Adaptation.

  • Engineering Design and Mathematics (EDM). REF: 2021-OCT-FET05 Indicative research interests include Robotics, Machine Vision, Bioenergy, Bio-sensing Technology and Mathematics & Statistics research.

  • Geography and Environmental Management (GEM). REF: 2021-OCT-FET06 Indicative research interests include Air Quality Management, Sustainable Planning & Environments, Water, Communities & Resilience and Healthy Urban Environments.

We will be holding a webinar at 10:00 on Wednesday 16th June when applicants can talk with potential PhD Directors of Study about specific programmes of study that have been selected for studentships across departments. Details about the webinar will appear on department websites soon.

Funding

The studentships are available from 1st October 2021 or 1st January 2022 for a period of three years full time or pro-rata part time equivalent, subject to satisfactory progress.

There are a small number of fully-funded PhD positions for up to three years, including a tax exempt stipend which is currently £15,609 per annum and tuition fees. In addition, there are partially funded positions available.

Eligibility

The successful candidate will have a Master's qualification in the relevant field of study according to the requirements of the hosting Department.

A recognised English language qualification is required.
