FoodBioSystems BBSRC Doctoral Training Partnership – PhD studentships available

Call for PhD Researchers across the Agriculture-Food Value chain

FoodBioSystems is a UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) funded doctoral training partnership (DTP) which brings together six UK universities internationally recognised for their expertise in agriculture, food and nutrition, as well as fundamental bioscience disciplines. The DTP is led by the University of Reading in collaboration with Cranfield University, Queen’s University Belfast, Aberystwyth University, Surrey University and Brunel University London. Through our PhD research projects and training programme, our postgraduate researchers will have the skills to integrate research throughout the Agri-Food system. These skills will equip our researchers to achieve sustainable food production, develop integrated food and nutrition solutions, and reverse the surge of diet related diseases. To achieve this we are advertising 50 PhD projects in subject areas that span the entire food value chain, so we aim to recruit students from a broad range of scientific backgrounds. We have over 60 associate and affiliate partners, from primary producers and food manufacturers to retailers, government and non-government organisations. Our doctoral researchers are focused on meeting research challenges to ensure food security, environmental sustainability and improved public health. They have access to world class expertise and state of the art facilities. All our students are co-supervised across two institutes within our academic partnership and successful candidates will be required to actively participate in our robust and flexible cohort training. You will gain a core understanding of food systems, data analysis and modelling in addition to our subject specific training. Through our research and training programme we aim to ensure that our scientists think, integrate and respond to challenges with a multidisciplinary view – skills essential for the future of global food systems and your career.
