Programme Structure

Year 1

In year 1 you will choose three laboratory rotation projects in research groups at the cutting edge of experimental medicine. Taught modules are held in Statistical Methods (Southampton or QMUL), pathway specific topics and Quantitative Cell Biology, with practical training in bioinformatics and computational modelling of disease relevant datasets (taught in Southampton - all students attend*). An intermediate MRes is awarded after successful first year completion. This MRes is not offered for application separately.

Years 2-4

In years 2-4 you undertake your original research project in your chosen subject area, at your partner institution. Our aim is for you to become an active and valued member of a research lab led by one of our expert scientists.

Funding is available for a limited number of places. You must meet MRC student eligibility requirements. Studentships are paid at equivalent or above the standard UK Research Council recommended stipend. Fees will be covered for eligible students. Some projects have links with industry, including pharmaceutical companies, with potential for stipend enhancement.
