The School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences invites applications for full-time PhD studentships. The projects fall within our six interlinked themes:

  • Palaeoenvironmental Change

Funding information

CENTA studentships are available to UK and EU applicants who qualify for NERC awards (see UKRI Terms & Conditions for further guidance about eligibility for NERC funding). Due to matched-funding arrangements we can fully fund EU students even though NERC will only fund part.

Studentships funded solely by The Open University are available to students of any nationality subject to the acquisition of a Tier 4 visa where required.

A first degree at grade 2:1 or equivalent in a relevant science subject is required. A Masters degree (MSc or integrated MSci) or equivalent experience is desirable.

Your application for CENTA studentships should comprise: (1) a cover letter outlining why the project is of interest and how your skills match those required, (2) your CV and contact details of 3 academic references, (3) a CENTA application (only required if you are applying to a CENTA PhD project), and (4) a completed Home OU application form (if you are resident in the UK or European Economic Area).

Closing date for applications: 10th January 2020 (12pm, noon)

Interviews will take place in the week commencing 4th February 2020

Your application for OU studentships should comprise: (1) a cover letter outlining why the project is of interest and how your skills match those required, (2) your CV and contact details of 3 academic references, (3) (4) a completed Home OU application form (if you are resident in the UK or European Economic Area) or International OU application form (for all other nationalities and residencies

Closing date for applications: 7th February 2020 (12pm, noon)

Interviews will take place in late February 2020
