The School of Physical Sciences at The Open University invites applications for full-time PhD studentships in the Space Instrumentation research discipline for a February 2021 start. The available projects are:

• EMCCD detector development for space applications: from WFIRST to future mission opportunities

• CMOS Image Sensor for the THESEUS X-ray Space Telescope

• High Dynamic Range CMOS Image Sensors

• A universal model for detector simulations for space applications

Up to two full-time PhD studentships, funded by the STFC and the European Space Agency (ESA), are available. The 3-year research studentships provide a maintenance grant of £15,264 per year (2020-2021 rate) and all academic fees are covered. The projects are only available to students who have no restrictions on how long they can stay in the UK and have been ordinarily resident in the UK for at least 3 years prior to the start of the studentship.
