Amrita E4LIFE International PhD Fellowships

Program overview:

School for Sustainable Development, Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham is offering fully funded fellowships for pursuing a full-time PhD in Sustainable Development program under various thematic areas. This program is integrated with a comprehensive yet flexible Experiential Learning Curriculum that aims to enroll and accommodate candidates from various disciplines.

The selected students can choose to work in one of the following thematic areas. Students will be allocated a village where they are expected to co-design a sustainable solution with the goal of making the community self-reliant:

1. Health & Hygiene
2. Education & Gender Equality
3. Waste Management & Infrastructure
4. Energy and Environment
5. Agriculture & Risk Management
6. Livelihood & Skill Development
7. Water & Sanitation
8. Climate Change and Risk Assessment
9. Other relevant areas

Funding Information

The fellowships will be awarded purely based on academic excellence, interview and the research proposal provided during the application. It is mandatory for the enrolled PhD students to spend quality time in the villages selected for their study program, ensuring timely and effective outcomes.

Each fellowship will include:

The fellowship includes full fee waiver and a monthly stipend upto INR 18,000-35,000 for 3 years. The fellowship also covers the cost of international research travel and sustainable solution implementation cost in a village. The maximum amount of fellowship value can reach upto INR 25,00,000.

International Opportunity:

The PhD program will give the opportunity to work with international universities. The list of of some of our Partner Universities are:

Please upload the following documents in the portal

1. Research Proposal (3-5 pages - Instructions link)
2. Master’s Thesis: It is mandatory to submit your Master’s thesis as a part of your application.
3. CV or Resume: Applicants must include the following in their CV:
4. Amrita accepts unofficial transcripts as part of the online application, but the original academic transcripts & Educational certificates (UG and PG) must be provided at the time of admission.
5. A maximum of two recommendation letters to be provided during the online application. References should be from educators (preferred) or professionals familiar with the candidate’s experience and capacity for graduate work
6. Copy of passport (only for International students)
7. Proficiency Requirement (For International applicants ONLY): Applicants from a country where the native language is not English (regardless of current nation of residence) must provide proof of English proficiency. IELTS overall score minimum 6.5 or equivalent (require a minimum score of 6 in each section); (OR) TOEFL score minimum 90 or equivalent.

Selection criteria: The students will be shortlisted based on their experience, eligibility, and academic profile. The shortlisted candidates will be invited for an interview and selection will be based on an interview and the submitted research proposals.
