Fully Funded PhD Studentships

The University of Nottingham’s Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CfAM) is a world renowned research centre investigating the underpinning science behind Additive Manufacturing (AM) and 3D Printing. To support this, CfAM is home to several multi million pound government and industry funded research projects, including prestigious EPSRC Programme and Platform Grants, an EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training and a large initiative looking at new materials for AM.

With a research focus around processes, materials, computational methods and AM implementation, CfAM aims to deliver both single and multimaterial AM solutions in a single process step. Through close collaboration with industry, the Centre tackles major research challenges, ensuring that the UK remains at the forefront of AM research and its application to industry. The successful commercial exploitation of the Centre’s research will deliver cutting edge technology to meet both industrial and societal needs, for example contributing to the low carbon economy and personalised healthcare. Fully Funded Studentships at the University of Nottingham’s Centre for Additive Manufacturing

With more than 100 researchers, the CfAM has over 50 postgraduate students working on AM-specific research, these students are supervised and supported by a passionate group of academics, postdocs and technicians. To contribute and build on our existing success, we are looking to recruit high calibre and enthusiastic students from engineering and science related backgrounds who have a strong interest in AM across a range of sectors (automotive, aerospace, pharmaceutical, bio, etc.) , to undertake doctoral-level study. Our fully funded (EU, UK and limited number of overseas) studentships offer a unique opportunity to study in a multidisciplinary and diverse environment, which also provides access to one of the best equipped AM labs in the UK.

  • Applications are accepted throughout the year.
  • Fees and stipend will be covered for successful applicants at EU and UK level.
  • Candidates must possess or expect to obtain, a high 2:1 or 1st class degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences related discipline.
  • Official start dates are, December, February, April, July and October each year.
