Through collaboration with colleagues in areas such as Computer Science, Biology, Oceanography and Statistics, researchers in the Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster develop tools that have gained widespread use nationally and internationally. Expertise in both Algorithms and Bioinformatics is key to the success of projects on and off Campus, advancing research in algorithms, algorithmic questions in bioinformatics, and data processing. Researchers in the Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster develop tools that address real-world problems in medicine, the environment, industry and beyond.
Research in the cluster has supported government agencies such as the Public Health Agency of Canada and the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, as well as other research clusters in the Faculty of Computer Science.
Core research areas include:
The Algorithms and Bioinformatics cluster is home to innovative research groups and acclaimed students and faculty, including two former Canada Research Chairs and recipients of prestigious scholarships and fellowships, who collaborate to advance program curriculum, strengthen research within the Faculty, and to host research seminars by visiting researchers.
Dalhousie’s Faculty of Computer Science is the premier academic research institution in Information Technology in Atlantic Canada. Since our founding in 1997, our faculty have been working in major areas of computer science research, cutting across many industries and encompassing nearly all human endeavors. From oceans to healthcare, information communications technology to aerospace, our students and professors are making an impact.
