PhD Opportunities at Leeds Trinity University

Leeds Trinity University PhD Studentships and Fee Waivers

Leeds Trinity University is a modern, anchor institution with a developing and vibrant research environment. We are therefore delighted to announce the launch of up to five full-time PhD studentships that include a stipend and a tuition fee waiver to commence on February 1st 2023.

One of these studentships will be exclusively offered to a Black or Black (mixed) heritage candidate who must qualify for home (UK) fees. This ringfenced studentship will help widen participation at the highest level of research and continue our work towards race equality following our bronze award in the Race Equality Charter. Another studentship will be specifically awarded to support a PhD in Computer Science, supervised by Professor Yanguo Jing in the Faculty of Business Communication and Digital Industries. The other three studentships are open to any applicant in any Faculty.

We are also offering two fee waivers (no associated stipend) to excellent doctoral candidates from Commonwealth countries.

Successful applicants will be required to reside in the Leeds area for at least the first year of the PhD and to attend the University on a regular basis to complete their studies. They will also make an active contribution to the University’s research culture, through up to 200 hours of work per annum as research assistants/tutors or similar.

About Leeds Trinity University

Leeds Trinity is a small University with a big reputation that offers a personal and inclusive University experience in a research-led culture. Established in 1966 as a Catholic teacher training college, Leeds Trinity achieved University status in 2012 and is now looking to attract the next generation of researchers. Our faith-based values continue to inform our work and we welcome all, regardless of faith. Please refer to our homepages for more information about our Institution.

The scale of the institution provides for a supportive culture and facilitates research across discipline boundaries. Our research degrees are validated by The University of Leeds, one of the UK’s leading research universities. Postgraduate Researchers can therefore supplement Leeds Trinity University’s research training offer with courses offered by The University of Leeds. Applications are invited to study in one of the three Faculties of the University listed below. All interested applicants should contact the listed Faculty contact for guidance towards a suitable subject expert who is eligible to supervise in the area of interest. Interested applicants should discuss the feasibility of their research in the first instance to develop their research proposal.
