Graduate Research Assistant (Homelessness)

Graduate Research Assistant (Homelessness)

Location: Manchester
Salary: Grade 5 (£22,659 to £25,482 pro rata)

The Policy Evaluation and Research Unit is a multidisciplinary team of twenty evaluators, sociologists, criminologists, economists, psychologists and political scientists.

We work in the UK and across Europe on research and evaluation commissioned by the European Commission, UK Government, local authorities and charities, working across a range of areas of social policy and public sector reform. Our research is highly impactful and very applied, and our researchers get to work on a number of research projects, publications, and the impact agenda.

We use cutting edge mixed, quantitative and qualitative methods to evaluate and research policies and programmes in the fields of homelessness, criminal justice, children and young people’s wellbeing, youth transitions, education, radicalisation, welfare reform, social innovation, and social investment. What makes us distinct is the methodological rigour with which we approach all of our research.

We are recruiting a Graduate Research Assistant (GRA) in homelessness to join our team. As a GRA, you will work part time in our research unit while completing your PhD on a part time basis, giving you a unique and valuable opportunity to work on commissioned research in an area related to your PhD research. Your PhD fees will be paid during your employment with us, and a stipend of £7500 per annum will also be paid.

You will be joining a dynamic, forward thinking, impactful, research team. You will be a high quality graduate with an undergraduate (or preferably Masters) degree in a relevant social science or data science subject, and/or relevant experience in a research/policy environment. You will be able to shape and scope your PhD research with us, working to develop an area of focus on housing/homelessness policy. Your research will be empirical, using mixed, quantitative and qualitative approaches.
