HDR UK – Turing PhD Programme in Health Data Science

Health Data Research UK and the Alan Turing Institute are welcoming applications for up to 5 fully funded 4-year PhD studentships in Health Data Science to begin in the 2023-24 academic year.

Our uniquely supportive PhD programme, led by Professor Christopher Yau, has been set up to champion scientific excellence and to address the needs of the health data science sector by ensuring it has highly talented early-stage scientists whose skills span three fundamental areas: statistical, computational and health sciences.

What we offer:

Students will be based in one of our partner universities (Edinburgh, Manchester, UCL, Birmingham or Queen’s University Belfast) that they can make a preference for and they will receive:

  • Enhanced and tax-free stipends with increases every year (Y1: £19,919 outside London and £22,278 in London)
  • Fully paid tuition fees at the UK ‘Home’ rate*
  • Bespoke training delivered with our industry and academic partners
  • The opportunity to develop their own research proposal with our support
  • A bursary to support the next step of your career post-PhD
  • Research expenses and travel costs
  • Learning from and alongside a cohort of fellow students
  • Your own Director of Studies as a point of contact throughout your time with us
  • A tailored Leadership programme for Years 2-4 of the PhD programme

* We welcome applications from international candidates (there are scholarships available) and from those who are considering a return to academia.
