The studentships available are in biomedical imaging, pathology and genomics

These 3.5-year studentships provide funding for fees and stipend at the rate set by the UK Research Councils, as well as other research training and support costs, and are available to UK, EU and International students.

About the Interdisciplinary Precision Oncology Cardiff Hub

IPOCH brings together the Schools of Engineering, Computer Science and Medicine to develop the next generation of biomedical researchers.

PGRs have access to the combined research strengths, training expertise and resources of the three research-intensive schools with opportunities to participate in interdisciplinarity and ‘team science’.

1. integrating image and genomic data analytics, combined with an appreciation of big data and AI approaches and underpinned by a robust understanding of data integration including data security and data ethics
2. develop better analytical models to individualise treatment plans based on biomarkers from imaging, radiomics and spatial genomics
3. implement expert systems for efficiency through technology healthcare (e.g., natural language processing, automated processes, optimised workflows, optimised visualizations, interfaces and interactions with decision support systems).

The first set of projects available for the first intake are focusing on Prostate Cancer, the most common cancer in men. The research team has world leading expertise in prostate cancer diagnosis and therapeutics.

Eligibility

IPOCH studentships are available to UK and International applicants. Following Brexit, the UKRI now classifies EU students as international.

• All studentships will be competitively awarded
• There is a limit to the number of international students we can accept onto our programme (up to 30% cap across our Schools)
• We consider applications that come with matched funding to cover the difference in cost between international and home student fees.

Academic Criteria

Applicants for a studentship must have obtained, or be about to obtain, a UK degree, or the equivalent qualification gained outside the UK, in an appropriate area of Engineering, Computing or Medical sciences. Please check the entry requirements available on the Cardiff University portal before completing an application. Academic qualifications are considered alongside any significant relevant non-academic experience.

English requirements: If English is not your first language, you will need to have achieved at least 6.5 in IELTS (and no less than 6.5 in any section) by the start of the programme.

Along with the online application the candidate is asked to upload a covering letter, a CV, and two academic references (Reference Form Template). Transcripts of degrees and additional supportive documents can be provided at the interview stage.

Please complete the online application form by 5.00pm on Monday 24^th July 2023. If you are shortlisted for interview, you will be notified Monday 31^stJuly. Interview will be held during week commencing 7^th August. You will be notified of the outcome of the interview by Monday 31^st August.
