IRB Barcelona’s International PhD Programme is aimed at talented young researchers wishing to undertake their PhD theses in one of its 28 state-of-the-art laboratories, which tackle cutting-edge topics in cancer/metastasis, ageing and cell reprogramming, metabolism, cell differentiation, and genomics, among others. In the context of inter- and multi-disciplinary collaboration between groups, countries (more than 100 international collaborations) and sectors (academy, industry and hospitals), IRB Barcelona offers customised training and ample career development opportunities.

IRB Barcelona is located in the Barcelona Science Park, a centre in which first-class public research converges with the private sector in a stimulating, vanguard scientific environment.

IRB Barcelona currently consists of 28 research groups, which are organised into 6 integrative research nodes:

  • Chemical and Structural Biology
  • Computational Biology
  • Invertebrate Models of Disease
  • Cell Pathophysiology
  • Preclinical Models of Cancer
  • Preclinical Models of Disease

Well-equipped laboratories are complemented by a network of technical services, including advanced optical microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), proteomics and transcriptomics units, a high-throughput crystallography platform and an animal facility.
