The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Sheffield Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) is seeking exceptional postgraduate students to join our diverse NIHR Training Academy. .

As a world leading centre for research and training, the NIHR Sheffield BRC is keen to attract and cultivate the most promising academic researchers. Focused on the pull-through of lab-based discoveries into early phase clinical trials, the NIHR Sheffield BRC brings together outstanding scientists from The University of Sheffield and clinical disciplines at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are dedicated to improving treatment and care in areas where there are currently unmet clinical needs to enhance the quality of life of people within Sheffield and afar. Our strategy is based on the over-arching principles of Impact, Excellence, Inclusion, Collaboration and Effectiveness. With fresh and diverse perspectives, our Training Academy students will contribute to the deep understanding of a variety of diseases in the themes of Neuroscience, Cardiovascular Disease, and Infection & Immunity, to support our larger-scale objectives.

Over 3.5 years, you will study on a thriving, cohort-based programme as a part of the University of Sheffield, the NIHR Sheffield BRC and the wider NIHR Training Academy. You will have access to opportunities including additional career-based mentoring, SPARC placements, the NIHR Doctoral Training Camp, and targeted seminars and training courses. As an Academy member, you will be fully engaged with real-world challenges thanks to our unique clinical inputs and our multidisciplinary supervisory teams will ensure that you stay up to date with the latest developments in your respective field.

The NIHR Sheffield BRC Training Academy will equip students with the skills, knowledge and connections to pursue a fulfilling career in medical research. Our alumni will become a highly skilled academic research workforce capable of advancing the best research which improves health and care, and benefits society and the economy.

Eligibility

To apply, you must have a first / upper second-class honours degree or significant research experience. Our studentships are fully funded for Home students, including both course fees and a stipend.

  1. Identify a project from the list below. We currently have 6 Neuroscience theme projects available.
  2. Contact the respective supervisor in the first instance.
  3. Complete a University Postgraduate Research Application form available here: www.shef.ac.uk/postgraduate/research/apply
  4. Clearly state the prospective main supervisor in the respective box and select the correct department (details found on the individual project adverts)
