King's College London are seeking outstanding and motivated students to join our Health Faculties and Faculty of Natural & Mathematical Sciences

King’s is a research-intensive university with a global reputation for academic discovery and teaching. King’s College London and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) are collaborating to offer a unique PhD experience; providing students the opportunity to conduct research both at King’s and with an A*STAR Research Institute and Supervisor in Singapore.

Fully-funded Studentships

Three 4-year fully funded PhDs are available to commence in October 2020. The successful candidates will have both a King’s College London and A*STAR Supervisor.

Projects available for funding can be found in our Project Catalogue; all projects offer the opportunity to spend up to two years maximum in Singapore as part of the research and training programme. Projects available will fall within one of the following themes:

  1. Molecules, Cells and the Basis for Disease
  2. Imaging and Biomedical Engineering
  3. Molecules, Cells and the Basis for Disease & Informatics
  4. Neurosciences, Psychiatry and Mental Health
  5. Informatics
  6. Chemistry

Funding

Each studentship is fully funded for 4 years including tuition fees, a tax-free stipend of £17,285 in line with UKRI funding for research training (2020/21). A Research Training Student Grant (RTSG) will be provided for research consumables and for attending UK and international conferences. At King’s College London consumables allowance (for MRC DTP 1st year £5,000 and 4th year £2,000; for other projects dependent on the project type).

In addition, the student will be spending up to two years conducting their PhD research and training with an A*STAR Research Institute and Supervisor. During this time A*STAR will offer:

  • One-time allowance comprising an airfare grant of S$1,500
  • One-time settling-in allowance of S$1,000;
  • Housing subsidy
  • Monthly stipend of S$2,500
  • Conference allowance
  • Medical insurance
  • Miscellaneous research costs of the PhD work will be covered by the A*STAR Research Entities

Projects from Theme 1 - Theme 4 are open to Home/EU students with standard research council restrictions. EU students are only eligible for a full studentship if they have lived, worked or studied within the UK for three years prior to the funding commencing. Unfortunately, we cannot accept applications from non-EU candidates.

Projects from Theme 5 - Theme 6 are open to Home/EU residents and residents of the following countries USA, Canada, Latin America, and Australia.
