Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarships 2023 – TRANSFORM: Transformations of Human-Environment Interactions for Sustainable Development

Global Sustainable Development at the University of Warwick is calling for PhD applications for the Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarships Programme - TRANSFORM. TRANSFORM is a Leverhulme Trust Doctoral Scholarship Programme that provides a new research training pathway for sustainability. The PhD programme aims to train a new generation of transdisciplinary leaders who are able to address current and future sustainability challenges.

7 PhD studentships are available for entry in October 2023. The successful candidates will be based in Global Sustainable Development.

Applicants are invited to submit an application either through the highlighted thematic projects or Open Call.

Highlighted Thematic Topics

• Facilitating wider participation and community building in citizen science through visualisation
• Incorporating social justice into environmental decision making
• The social dimension of multi-risk hazard monitoring
• Sustainability from Below: Exploring the importance of tackling legacies of past violence
• Towards 'care-ful' cities: Unsettling boundaries
• Towards a net zero NHS
• Understanding water resilience under global change using secondary data

How to apply

You need to submit an application for MPhil/PhD in Global Sustainable Development and an application for the TRANSFORM scholarship. Step by step guideline of the application process can be found here. Applications close Monday 24^th April 2023.

Eligibility

Applicants should have an honours degree (2:1 or above) and a relevant Master’s degree, or equivalent qualifications or experience.

Applications are welcome from all disciplines contributing to the TRANSFORM programme. Applicants are advised to contact potential supervisors to discuss their potential project informally before submitting an application.

Funding

The scholarship will cover full tuition fees at the UK/Home fee level . Each scholarship will also provide a stipend for 4 years at the UKRI rate (for 2022/23, this is £17,668 pa and rates will increase slightly in subsequent years of the award) . In exceptional circumstances, fees at the overseas rate may be available. There will be additional funding available for research and training expenses. Students would normally be expected to be enrolled full-time.
