MRC DTP and CASE Studentships in Global Health

Fully funded 4-year postgraduate studentships

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) and Lancaster University (LU) are pleased to announce that the call to apply for MRC DTP/CASE PhD studentships are now open for an autumn 2024 start.

The goal of the DTP is to develop talented researchers:

  • Who demonstrate leadership in translational research relevant to Global Health
  • With the quantitative and interdisciplinary skills needed to work across the traditional phases of translational research
  • Who can translate scientific innovation into beneficial impact on health for the World’s most vulnerable people and communities

If you can demonstrate understanding, knowledge, and experience in these areas, we encourage you to apply and accept applications from candidates from a range of academic backgrounds and disciplines, including; medicinal chemistry, molecular and vector biology, parasitology, entomology, pharmacology, clinical specialties, epidemiology, statistics, health informatics, mathematics, economics, social and management science.

The four-year structure of the programme enables a staged entry to doctorate study. Prior to enrolment, successful candidates will indicate a preferred PhD project selection and will register at the host institution, either LSTM or LU.

We are seeking candidates to work within active research groups based around project proposals submitted by LSTM and LU academic staff.

Studentships are awarded based on academic excellence and performance at interview. As a minimum, applicants should hold a first class, or high upper second-class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to the available MRC DTP/CASE research projects. Studentships awarded based on predicted grades will be conditional upon final results.

Where an applicant does not meet this requirement (e.g. they hold a lower second class undergraduate degree), they may be eligible to apply if they also hold a Master's degree with an awarded distinction or equivalent (in an area relevant to their proposed PhD) and are able to provide an award certificate and transcript for both qualifications.
