About CMAC

The EPSRC CMAC Future Manufacturing Research Hub is offering 13 fully-funded industry-sponsored PhD studentships for research projects in the wider area of continuous manufacturing and advanced crystallisation. Projects will be related to crystallisation, formulation, creation of a database for materials properties, and manufacturing and testing of autonomous drug products.

CMAC is a world-leading, collaborative research hub that is developing cutting-edge design and modelling tools, alongside integrated production and supply chain systems to address the future needs of patients, consumers and industry. Health systems worldwide are pressed to deliver better medicines to more people with tightening budgets. CMAC is addressing these goals via the use of continuous manufacturing and digitally enabled, integrated end-to-end processing.

The PhD Training Opportunity at CMAC

The advertised projects are hosted across two partnering UK universities (Strathclyde, Leeds) and are in collaboration with some of our global Tier 1 partners (AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis, Pfizer, Roche, and Takeda). Researchers working on CMAC projects have a great opportunity to conduct cutting-edge research in world class facilities, explore academic and industrial collaborations, experience working in industry through placements, and receive multidisciplinary training and mentoring that will help them develop into well-rounded professionals. The structure of a PhD project with CMAC includes a period of initial training and familiarisation with the Hub’s activities, participation in summer schools, outreach events, mentoring schemes, and supervision from academic and industrial advisers.
