PhD in Marketing Management

University College of Southeast-Norway (USN), School of Business announces five to six fulltime PhD scholarships in the Marketing Management PhD program at the School of Business. Accession will be from August 2016 or in agreement with the Dean.

The academic environment behind the program is more than 20 professors and researchers leading in their fields both nationally and internationally. The main work place is Campus Ringerike.

The positions offer a three years fixed term with 100% PhD studies, or a four years fixed term with 75% of the time be dedicated to PhD studies and 25% of the time to other duties e.g teaching at Bachelor or MSc level, or other projects related work at the School of Business. Candidates must be enrolled at the PhD program at the School of Business to be eligible for the scholarship (within 3 months from employment). Candidates are encouraged to plan a stay abroad during the period.

To apply for the position, the candidate must have an MSc degree or equivalent from a relevant academic program related to marketing and business administration. The candidate must have the grade B or better to be accepted into the program. http://www.hbv.no/phd-marketing.

Candidates must be able to cooperate with fellow students and faculty, and to work independently with academic topics. Formal requirements for the positions are described in Regulations regarding PhD at HBV

Applicants must attach a proposal for their PhD project (8-10 pages) to their application. The proposal must include the topic for the planned PhD research, a research problem (area), relevant theory, scientific methods, and a time schedule for the project.

The evaluation of the applicants will be based on academic performance (grades from bachelor and master degrees), relevant research work and the project plan. Applicants are encouraged to include documentation of earlier relevant work that shows academic potential. The applicants must have perfect command of written and spoken English (Norwegian or another Scandinavian language will be an advantage).

PhD students will get close supervision during the period.

The position is placed in salary code 1378/1017, which currently corresponds to an annual gross income of NOK 430.500,- (pay scale level 50). The appointment will be made in accordance with current regulations with supplementary rules for research fellowship appointments in universities and university colleges. Applicants must agree to participate in organized doctoral study programs within the period of appointment.

  • An application letter, including personal suitability and motivation for the position.
  • Certified copies of certificates and diplomas.
  • Curriculum vitae (with full information about education, grades, former positions, teaching experience, research and administrative experience, and a list of publications and conference presentations).
  • Draft PhD proposal and a 3/4 year progress plan (8-10 pages) demonstrating how the PhD will be executed and fit within the framework of the position.
  • Names and contact information (address, email, phone) of three references.
  • Copies of Master’s dissertation.
  • Any relevant scientific work; Joint research work will be taken into account. In cases where it is difficult to determine the applicant’s contribution, a short note of explanation should be supplied.
