PhD opportunities in Chemical Sciences
Chemical Sciences are included in Doctoral School at Gdańsk University of Technology, Poland, which is regarded to be the first research university in Poland among universities of technology according to domestic rankings. This program concerns the following disciplines:
- chemistry and
- materials engineering
The programme includes obligatory and facultative courses which highlight basic science as well as well applied sciences, and also lectures by visiting professors from various fields and countries, who will share their knowledge and experience in their respective research areas.
The most important scientific topics covered by the programme in chemistry are: new polymers, new biologically active compounds, new methods of analytical chemistry, new diagnostic methods, anticorrosion technology, new nanomaterials as well as functional food. The most active research areas in which PhD students run their projects are within pure chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, polymer sciences, chemical engineering, environmental sciences, chemical technology, food sciences and technology. Over 30 faculty members offer research doctoral projects for PhD students in chemistry. The programme provides the doctoral students in chemistry with the required background in the fields of general chemistry, biotechnology and chemical technology, ranging through a wide plethora of industries, to enable PhD students to develop their own ideas and concepts, as well as creative problem solving skills. The programme includes teaching practices as well as external domestic and international internships.
Materials engineering is on the other hand a wide field of science. Materials engineers create, test, and assess known and new materials for special industrial and manufacturing applications. The obligatory and facultative courses, highlighting various methods of manufacturing and testing of a wide range of materials, are offered during the program. The PhD students of materials engineering research how to design and manipulate the structure and properties of materials not only at macroscopic but also at a molecular and atomic level. With a solid base in chemistry, physics, and mathematics, they add to specific engineering knowledge in nanotechnology, electroceramics, biomaterials, conducting polymers, advanced semi- and superconductors, photovoltaics, non-destructive testing of materials and many more thrilling fields. Over 10 faculty members offer research projects for PhD students in material engineering.
Education is conducted in English and lasts four years. All PhD students at our School receive fellowships and there is no tuition fee. Additionally, special fellowships from IDUB project are granted to internationals students on the top of regular fellowship. In order to apply, candidates have to select prospective supervisors and register at our web-page. Process of admission includes application evaluation, an interview and requires from a candidate to have an official certificate of English (at least B2 level), recgonized by the school. Each candidate must find prospective supervisor from our School in order to register. Enrollment for AY 2021/2022 will start on June 21, 2021.
