PhD opportunity: Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in San Francisco

The rising need for health care professionals has created unprecedented opportunities for generalists with advanced education. But for us it’s more than just meeting a demand.

Since opening our doors as the first private nursing school in California, we’ve committed all of our resources to ensure USF Graduate students leave our campus prepared not only for successful healthcare careers, but equipped to improve the lives of their patients and peers.

Students in our graduate programs have the opportunity to gain clinical practice in more than 200 of the Bay Area’s top healthcare organizations: John Muir Medical Center, Kaiser Permanente, Stanford University Medical Center, San Francisco General Hospital, UCSF Medical Center, the Alameda County Public Health Department, and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

Doctoral Programs

We’ve designed our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) programs to embrace progressive thought that draws on the values of our Jesuit mission. State-of the-art facilities, full-time Fulbright Scholars and more than 200 Bay Area health care institutions provide doctoral students with every opportunity to advance their careers.

CLINICAL PSYCHOLOGY (PSYD)

At the University of San Francisco, PsyD students are trained to translate thought into action, through practice-oriented training that emphasizes the mental, emotional, and physical health needs of underserved communities. Stressing clinical practice, the program prepares doctoral students to work as health service psychologists in a variety of community health settings. Graduates will be proficient in the empirical and theoretical underpinnings of integrated, behavioral health interventions while sensitive to contextual, cultural, spiritual, and socioeconomic environments of individuals and communities.

Program Features

  • A practice oriented Doctor of Psychology program grounded on scientific research; students are placed in real-world clinical scenarios for observation and experience
  • Work with marginalized populations and improve patient outcomes in integrated healthcare settings
  • Supportive faculty focused on student mentorship and a diverse, dynamic student body
  • Admission is based on the overall fit for each applicants. Applications are open for candidates from both Psychology backgrounds and other fields who have taken certain pre-requisite courses.
