PhD programmes at the University of Pavia, Italy

Our PhD programs cover a wide range of topics and are organized into three disciplinary groups: Science and Technology, Life Science, Human and Social Science.

Our mission is to make sure that highly motivated students from all over the world are admitted to our Ph.D. programs and will successfully interact with our best faculty members. In order to further increase the enrolment of international students, starting with academic year 2020-2021, a number of scholarships are being reserved to international students. The recipients of these 3-year international scholarships will also benefit from one year of free accommodation in a students’ residence.

Our PhD programs not only open new pathways to future careers in academia, but also help develop the skills for a successful professional life outside the University. We promote interactions with industry and enterprise, as well as international programmes allowing our graduate students to obtain a joint degree with other European institutions.

Besides studying and carrying on research, graduate students can experience living in Pavia, a city-campus with intense cultural life, offering an experience which is unique in Italy and rare in Europe.

Scholarships and fees

A three-year scholarship (€ 15300 per year) is provided for most of the PhD positions. Research periods spent abroad are supported by a 50% increase of the scholarship, as well as by additional mobility scholarships. The tuition fees amount to about 150€ per year.

International students

• International scholarships: more than 20 PhD scholarships reserved to candidates who graduated outside Italy
• Free accommodation: 50 fully paid lodgings at UNIPV students’ residences for the first year
