The National Centre for Family Business at Dublin City University Business School invites outstanding graduates (who have completed or are about to complete a Master’s Programme in any discipline) to apply for its full-time PhD Programme starting September 2019. This is a fully-funded position for 3 years.

The purpose of this study is to examine the potential benefits of mentoring in the context of family businesses, providing structured engagement research between current and future business leaders. The research will look at the areas of intergenerational engagement and succession planning, governance and the family business, family and non-family engagement amongst others.

The National Centre for Family Business (NCFB) is a recognized research centre within DCU Business School and supports Family Businesses by producing high quality academic research and by providing professional development opportunities for multi-generational family businesses. Recognised nationally as the leading National Centre for Family Business, NCFB is developing an international reputation as a centre of research expertise on family business.

As part of our growth strategy we have hired world-class faculty members. We offer a stimulating learning and research environment, and a structured PhD programme. The programme offers advanced courses in research methods, and for those interested in a career in academia, training in teaching. Successful candidates will conduct research projects under faculty supervision and get access to world-leading scholars who are engaged with the NCFB.

Applications are sought from exceptional graduates from Ireland and overseas. Applicants should have an outstanding academic record at undergraduate and postgraduate level in any discipline and a research interest in one of the following subject areas:

• Family Business and/or SMEs’

This project is fully funded by the National Centre for Family Business for the duration of three years with a stipend of €18,000 per year. The Scholarship covers the cost of tuition fees, and a travel and conference allowance. Selection will be made on academic merit.
