SCHOLARSHIP OPORTUNITIES AT LONDON SOUTH BANK UNIVERSITY

Scholarships for PhD studentships are available at London South Bank University for April 2020 admission.

A new scholarship scheme

The School of the Built Environment and Architecture (SBEA) at the London South Bank University (LSBU) is one of the largest schools in its field in the UK. SBEA has recently sharpened its research focus. It has two research centres on: Civil and Building Services Engineering, and Integrated Delivery of the Built Environment; and three research groups on: Acoustics; Architectural Design; and Digital and Robotic Architecture. Its aim is to pursue world-leading research which has impact on national policies and governance, on practices in industry, and on the wellbeing of society.

The school is launching the LSBU-SBEA Doctoral Scholarship Programme which offers a number of scholarships for Ph.D. studentships.

Details of the scheme

Key information on the LSBU-SBEA Doctoral Scholarship Programme is now presented:

  1. The studentships are funded for 3 years, and cover the tuition fees and a monthly stipend.
  2. The studentships are available to UK and EU applicants, and citizens of other countries fulfilling UK immigration requirements
  3. The admission requirements are:
    1. at least a Second Class Upper honours degree in Architecture, Building Services Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying and Real Estate
    2. a Masters degree with at least a Merit classification
    3. satisfaction of English Language and other admission requirements of LSBU for doctoral students
  4. applicants should also:
    1. submit a full proposal for doctoral studies on one of the topics below
    2. submit a personal statement making a case to support the application
    3. attend and pass a selection interview.
  5. The inaugural scholarships will be available for the April 2020 intake of students.

Architecture

  1. Robotic controlled material deposition of high-performance thermoplastic polymers for structural parts
  2. Data driven acoustic design through robotic manufacturing – subtractive and coating technologies.

Construction, Property, and Surveying

  1. Exploring challenges of mental health issues among workers in UK construction industry and finding ways to mitigate the aggravating risk factors
  2. Potential of nature-based green infrastructure solutions to improve wellbeing in smart cities
  3. Professionalism and ethics in construction.

Civil and Building Services Engineering

  1. Design of sustainable structures incorporating composite panels for reducing CO2 emission from buildings and for attenuating noise
  2. Fire performance of 3D-printed timber structural components
  3. Development of innovative green cements for ground improvement and concrete applications
  4. Inter-seasonal ground source heat pump energy with predictive behaviour control and demand response
  5. Implementation of a Fuzzy Logic Control design to maximise utilisation of natural ventilation in buildings: automatic and optimised control
  6. Developing a prediction model for rotary/machines aircraft noise impact in an urban environment.

Relevant dates

Deadline for submitting applications: 20 January 2020.
Interviews of selected applicants: 27-31 January 2020.
