At the Babraham Institute we carry out world-leading innovative research into the molecular mechanisms that underlie normal cellular processes and functions. A particular focus is how we age and studying the underlying mechanisms controlling this process. To answer these questions we examine the regulation of gene expression and the control of cell function by signalling processes.

Babraham Research Campus (BRC) and the Babraham Institute have been awarded BBSRC Collaborative Training Partnership (CTP) funding. This Studentship will lead to a University of Cambridge PhD degree and can be awarded for up to 4 years (for details of eligibility and funding click here).

The BRC CTP is a joint partnership between the Babraham Institute, the BBSRC and BRC and a range of innovative tenant companies on the Campus working in the Bioscience for Health BBSRC priority area, combining scientific and industry supervision to train PhD students in breakthrough skills and new technologies to meet needs identified by the commercial sector.

Students will be immersed in a unique integration of academic research, bioscience innovation and commercial know-how to equip them for successful careers in academia, industry and the wider bioscience sector.

Each CTP student will conduct their research within one of the Institute’s three research programmes and spend time working with one of the Campus-based companies. The close location of companies to the Institute will allow students to benefit from a high-degree of interaction with their industrial partner throughout the period of their studentship.

The unique environment and location of the BRC will provide students with access to real-world examples of translational activity, innovation and entrepreneurship and will lead to future careers in academia, industry and science-based tech transfer and commercialisation.

As a student at the Institute, you will have access to all of our outstanding science facilities, each one providing specialist equipment and expertise to support key research techniques and technologies including our animal facility, imaging, chemical synthesis and mass spectrometry, transgenics services, flow cytometry, lipidomics, next-generation sequencing and a highly specialist team of bioinformaticians. Several of our facilities operate training programmes to help you develop your own skills in these key research areas. The Institute’s research groups incorporate a selection of other cutting-edge specialties including single-cell and multiomics approaches.
