PhD studies at Charles University

Charles University was founded in 1348, making it one of the oldest universities in the world. Yet it is also renowned as a modern, dynamic, cosmopolitan and prestigious institution of higher education. Charles University is ranked by the most respected international league tables amongst the top 2 % of world universities. The whole university comprises 17 relatively independent faculties, located mainly in Prague, but also in the cities of Pilsen and Hradec Králové. Our faculties educate almost 48,000 students and over 9,000 international students come to the university to obtain their degree. We are the largest university in the Czech Republic offering a broad range of study programmes and courses in various fields in both Czech and English (science, medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, computer science, humanities, social sciences, physiotherapy, law, education,...). Ph.D. studies: Charles University offers over 200 doctoral study programs at its 17 faculties, in several languages and with various standard lengths of study (3-4 years). An up-to-date list of doctoral study programs and fields of study for an academic year is published four months before the deadline for submitting applications, which is usually by the 30^th of April and by the 31^st of December.

For all applicants interested in the field of science (Biology, Chemistry, Geology, Geography etc.) there is a special opportunity provided by The STARS program, which presents fully funded PhD positions to ensure an excellent education and an adequate income to PhD students.
