PhD Training in Translational Research

We are seeking to recruit 1 outstanding science graduates to a 4-year (1+3 MRes-PhD) programme in Translational Research to work on internationally-competitive research projects. The PhD training will equip them to exploit excellence in translational research for improving the health of local and national patient populations; this call is for applications for PhD studentships for September 2022 entry.

The MRes consists of three rotations through a choice of project areas as well as workshops providing training and development in research skills. All students will be required to undertake training in computational skills offered either through the BRC skills training and/or the Health Sciences Doctoral Training Centre to promote computational literacy in the health research work force.

The studentships offer a stipend in line with London UKRI Stipend rate for the 2022/23 academic year; costs for MRes and PhD tuition fees are covered by the BRC as well as funds for research project support.

Criteria

Candidates must possess, or be expected to achieve a 1st or upper 2nd class degree in a relevant subject including the biosciences, chemistry, physics, computer science or mathematics, and be enthusiastic about combining their expertise with other disciplines in the field of healthcare. The full fellowship is open to EU/Home students only.

Applicants should outline which PhD project they are interested in undertaking and why however please note if successful there is no obligation to commit to that project. The list of PhD projects can be found on the NIHR Guy’s and St Thomas’ BRC website.

Important Dates

The closing date for applications under this scheme is Wednesday 6th July at midnight.

Interviews for shorlisted candidates has been provisionally scheduled for w/c 18th July.

Successful applicants are expected to take up their studentships in September 2022
