Postgraduate Research Scholarships Scheme

The University of Hull is delighted to announce the launch of its flagship Postgraduate Research scholarships scheme. We are awarding a total of 19 scholarships across five interdisciplinary research themes, all addressing major global concerns.

Graduates are at the heart of our vibrant research community and we are empowering all our researchers to be at the forefront of current and future challenge-led research. We have a strong track record of impactful research that makes a difference to our world both now and in the future.

We are now looking for highly motivated, talented students to join our teams of high profile researchers in the five areas listed below. The deadline to apply for these scholarships is 29 January 2020.

Research theme: Clinical Application of Next Generation Microbiome Profiling

Research theme: Clinical Application of Next Generation Microbiome Profiling You will be part of a multi-disciplinary cluster of four fully funded PhD studentships. Working with a major industry partner you will develop and apply cutting edge microbiome profiling technologies to real world clinical and consumer applications. Read more.

Research theme: Living with the consequences of ‘modern slavery’

This cluster explores critical questions of victimology in modern slavery studies. It aims to investigate critically the problems experienced by those living with the consequences of ‘modern slavery’, whether directly as ‘victims’ of exploitation, or indirectly as ‘victims’ of the measures put in place to prevent it. Research theme: Happy Chemical: exploring serotonin as the missing link between pollution, climate, animal behaviour and human health.

We are looking for three PhD students to join our “Happy Chemical Cluster” and work with us on Animal Behaviour and/or Molecular Biology. These projects will focus on the role of serotonin - a chemical known to contribute to wellbeing and happiness and of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI). Read more.

Postgraduate Research Scholarships Scheme

Research theme: Better Policing, Safer Communities

This multidisciplinary PhD cluster brings together expertise from across the University. Comprising six PhD projects in total, the common theme to this diverse range of research topics is to improve community safety through better policing. The topics have been co-produced with Humberside Police to meet the Force priorities, and to support government strategies. Read more.

Research theme: Homeless Healthcare Hull

The aim of this interdisciplinary research cluster is to better understand and improve healthcare services for homeless people in the UK. Homeless people are more likely to be victims of violent crime and abuse and at more risk of numerous health issues. As members of the Academy of Primary Care and Institute for Clinical and Applied Health Research, you will join a vibrant research environment with dedicated facilities and resources. You will be based at the award-winning Allam Medical Building. Read more.
