Why study your PhD at London Met?

London Met helps our students advance research in an area they’re passionate about. By studying a PhD at London Met, we enable our students to put out an original contribution of knowledge into the global research community.

Although there are no taught elements as part of the PhD, our students always feel supported here. We’ll always be on hand with an exciting range of benefits. Our students:

  • are supervised by at least two members of staff with extensive expertise in their chosen area of research
  • receive research training to help keep their project on track
  • have access to any master’s level modules that might help with their research
  • are able to study for a PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education alongside their PhD project

What areas of research do we supervise?

London Met is home to six exciting academic schools, offering a wide range of research topics and specialist research centres. These include but are not limited to:

  • applied health research, health studies (interdisciplinary perspective), public health and nutrition
  • architectural history/culture, design, ecologies and the civic realm
  • cellular and molecular biosciences
  • criminology
  • 3D design, design history, global fashion studies, visual and material culture
  • finance, economics, social marketing
  • jewellery, textile and creative practice
  • loose-fit construction, community-led design, architect as craftsperson
  • maritime law and company law
  • media and communications
  • medicinal chemistry and drug delivery
  • politics and international relations
  • public/visual art, performance and practice-based/led research
  • sociology
  • violence against women and children and the emergence of trafficking

We also encourage cross-disciplinary projects if there is an exciting proposal.
