PhD opportunities in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering

We are seeking enthusiastic individuals with a background in Engineering or a related Science to undertake a PhD in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. We have a range of opportunities available across the School on topics aligned with our core research themes, which are:

  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Bioengineering
  • Energy and sustainability
  • Materials and structures
  • Future Transport
  • Design and Simulation

We currently have close to 100 PhD students from all over the world, working across these themes, carrying out research in a friendly and supportive environment, supervised by academics who are leaders in their field, using well-equipped laboratories and research facilities. Many of the advertised projects are linked with large, collaborative research projects, or are linked to leading industrial partners.

Entry requirements

The minimum academic requirement is an Upper Second Class Honours degree from a UK or ROI HE provider (or qualifications deemed equivalent by the University).

The projects are funded from range of sources and the duration of the projects will vary. Please check the individual project advertisements for details.

Deadline for applications: The closing date for many of the advertised projects is 17th March 2022.
