The School of Medicine, Medical Sciences, and Nutrition at the University of Aberdeen, provides a dynamic, world-class research environment, creating opportunities for greater knowledge and scientific discovery, that will underpin maintaining good health and the treatment of disease.

Our Research

Our research addresses the key health challenges facing society today. We are a translational research leader, striving to lead the way with new discoveries that will have a transformational impact on the health of society.

Within our Research Institutes are Research Centres where teams work and teach collaboratively. The centres are focused in areas of excellence which include women’s health, nutrition and wellbeing, cancer, cardiovascular science and diabetes, biomedical imaging, arthritis and musculoskeletal health.

Foresterhill Campus

Located at the heart of the Foresterhill Health Campus, one of the biggest clinical and research sites in Europe, our state-of-the-art facilities include a large teaching hospital, the Institute of Medical Sciences, the Institute of Applied Health Sciences and the world-renowned Rowett Institute, which plays a major role in the UK research capability in nutrition and human health.

Our students benefit from access to cutting-edge facilities and technologies keeping us at the forefront of developments in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Funding

Dedicated to creating a community of research excellence, achievement, and innovation, we have a funding database of scholarships designed to fund your studies. External sources of funding are also available; these are best approached once you identify a supervisor for the project you wish to carry out.

Support and Training

Your research training is supported closely by our Postgraduate Research School. The PGR School will support your PhD journey, ensuring that your experience with us enables you to develop the knowledge, skills and attributes you need to navigate your PhD and prepare for your future career.
