We are looking for researchers who want to join our team in the research department Smart Data & Knowledge Services at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Kaiserslautern and aiming for a PhD.

The DFKI is Germany's leading business-oriented research institution in the field of innovative software technologies based on artificial intelligence methods. In the international scientific community, DFKI ranks among the most recognized “Centers of Excellence” and currently is the biggest research center worldwide in the area of AI and its application in terms of number of employees and the volume of external funds. Description

Our team pursues research in the field of our CoMem (for Corporate Memory) - a corporate memory infrastructure that makes corporate data silos accessible with knowledge graphs for knowledge-based services. With our Semantic Desktop approach, we are able to embed these services into the working environment of users and therefore provide context-specific assistance. CoMem is both a research object itself and a real application in industrial use. Parallel to the projects, we use it ourselves 24/7 according to the saying "Eat-your-own-dogfood". Current research topics with possibilities for PhD research include intentional forgetting, graph neural networks & embeddings, digital assistants, intelligent search, proactive information delivery, intelligent user interfaces & HCI, context awareness, machine learning, semantic technologies, ontologies, knowledge graphs, information retrieval, NLP etc.

We have several positions available for those who wish to pursue a PhD in these topics. Therefore, we are looking for motivated PhD students who want to join our team, bring in their ideas and expertise, extend our research in this innovative topic area and want to bring their ideas into running systems.

Your profile

• Good to excellent graduation in computer science (Master or comparable)
• You have experience in several of the following areas: machine learning, semantic technologies, ontologies, knowledge graphs, corporate memories, information retrieval, intentional forgetting, graph neural networks, graph embeddings, word embeddings
• Good English language skills, communicative and reliable
• German language skills are beneficial
• You are a motivated team player with commitment and initiative
