Sir William Dunn School of Pathology 4 Year Departmental Prize PhD Studentships - October 2021

Outstanding and motivated students are sought for highly prestigious Four Year Departmental Prize PhD studentships available for research projects starting in October 2021. The studentships are funded by the Oxford-E P Abraham Research Fund, MRC, Clarendon Fund, and Colleges, and provide full support for up to 4 years. They cover full fees and pay an enhanced stipend of ~£17,285 per annum. Students of all nationalities are eligible to apply.

Department

The Sir William Dunn School of Pathology is a dynamic and growing department located in beautiful surroundings near the historic centre of Oxford. Famous for the development of penicillin and cephalosporin antibiotics, it has an outstanding track record in medical research.

The Department undertakes research in Cancer & Genome Stability, Cell Biology, Development & Stem Cells, Infection & Immunity, and RNA and Gene Expression.

The Oxford Molecular Pathology Institute (OMPI) is an important investment at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology. It opened in January 2011 and houses leaders in the fields of Immunology, Microbiology and Cancer.

Graduate Training

We take on about 15 graduate students each year for research towards a Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil.) degree, which is the University of Oxford’s equivalent of a PhD.

We usually have over 60 graduate students in the Department at any one time, at least half of whom are from outside the UK. We are a spacious and well-funded Department, able to offer graduate students outstanding facilities. Students also benefit from its close proximity to the Colleges, Libraries and other facilities in the University Science Area.

Students have access to a comprehensive skills training programme covering a wide range of techniques and transferable skills, and there are internship opportunities to enable students to explore career options.
