FAQs

How do I find a project supervisor and university?

Explore our quantum research opportunities to find a research project that sparks your interest or contact potential supervisors to discuss available opportunities. Contact details can be accessed via our Sydney Quantum Experts list.

I am an international student. Am I able to work while studying my course full-time?

If you’re a postgraduate research student on a student visa, you can work unlimited hours during your studies. However, bear in mind that your visa requires you to maintain a full-time enrolment and complete your research within the duration specified. Please check your individual visa for specific restrictions.

An Australian PhD, when studying full-time, takes around 3.5 years. While some students can study part time and stretch the PhD over six years, international students must study full time as part of their visa conditions. Your PhD can help you to get employment in Australia and can be a pathway to permanent residency.
