Today, TWU is the largest institution serving primarily women in the United States. TWU offers more doctoral degrees to women than any institution in the United States. TWU has many nationally ranked graduate programs. Its campuses in Denton, Dallas and Houston, Texas are joined by an e-learning campus offering innovative online degree programs in business, education and healthcare.

During the fall semester 2014, doctoral students accounted for 20.6 percent (n=1,112) of all graduate students (5,391). The entire graduate student population represents 38 percent of the total university population (N=15,070). With respect to Ph.D. degrees granted, TWU conferred an average of 90 Ph.D. degrees over the last five years (2009-2014). These degrees are in 18 different Ph.D. degree program areas: Counseling Psychology; Dance; Early Childhood Development & Education; Family Studies; Family Therapy; Health Studies; Kinesiology; Molecular Biology; Nursing Sciences; Nutrition; Occupational Therapy; Physical Therapy; Reading Education; Rhetoric; School Psychology; Sociology; Special Education; and Women’s Studies.

Our faculty are dedicated to the teaching-learning process as demonstrated in their student –centered and active learning approach. This approach is congruent with the University’s Quality Enhancement Plan that encourages the enhancement of student engagement through increased opportunities for experiential learning.

Faculty are also committed to excellence in research, the discovery and dissemination of knowledge. They are excited to include students in their research. Students who participate in research with faculty have multiple opportunities to showcase their research on campus at our Annual Student Creative Arts & Research Symposium, annual Federation of North Texas Area Universities Student Research Symposium, or the Graduate Program Showcase. In addition, many of our students publish their research in peer reviewed journals and make platform and poster presentations of their research at professional organizations and conferences at national and international venues.
