The Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership offers at least 35 studentships each year across 23 training pathways, broadly clustered into the following areas:
Society and Wellbeing • Rights and Freedom • Learning and Cognition • Globalisation and Development • Economics and Management
Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and with a combined world-leading research community of over 3500 academic staff and students, we offer postgraduate funding and training across a range of fields in the Social Sciences across our three partner universities.
We are committed to widening participation and opening up postgraduate study to talented students from a diverse set of academic and professional backgrounds. With a dynamic student centred approach to postgraduate training, we will help you prepare for a range of future careers as you build on your disciplinary training or develop a new interdisciplinary research profile.
For candidates who meet the ESRC residency requirements, studentships will cover tuition fees and a stipend for living expenses. Students will also have the opportunity to apply for additional funding to assist with relevant training and research costs. A Master’s qualification is not a prerequisite for the award of a studentship from the Grand Union DTP, with training designed for individuals based on an assessment of their prior learning and training needs.
To apply for entry in October 2020, submit an application to the partner institution with whom you would like to register as a student by the relevant January 2020 deadline for your course.
Thinking of a PhD in the Social Sciences? The Grand Union DTP will host a webinar offering advice and Q&A for prospective applicants on 31st October 2019 at 15:00.
