Excellence and innovation in social science research training and funding

The Grand Union Doctoral Training Partnership offers at least 35 studentships each year across 23 training pathways, including the following areas: Anthropology, Area Studies, Criminology, Development, Data Science, Economics, Education, Geography, Governance, Health, International Relations, Linguistics, Migration, Politics, Psychology, Quantitative Finance, Social Justice, Social Policy, Socio-Legal, & Sociology

Funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and with a combined world-leading research community of over 3500 academic staff and students, we offer postgraduate funding and training across a range of fields in the Social Sciences across our three partner universities: The Open University, University of Oxford, and Brunel University London.

With a dynamic student-centred approach to postgraduate training, we will help you prepare for a range of future careers as you build on your disciplinary training or develop a new interdisciplinary research profile.

For 2024/25 entry, both UK and international students are eligible to apply, and all studentships will include a stipend for living expenses and cover tuition fees for the period of the award. Students will also have the opportunity to apply for additional funding to assist with relevant training and research costs. A Master’s qualification is not a prerequisite for the award of a studentship from the Grand Union DTP, with training designed for individuals based on an assessment of their prior learning and training needs.

The Grand Union DTP Directors will be hosting a webinar offering advice and a Q&A for those interested in applying on 12th December, 14:00-15:00 (UK Time). Register here to attend.

To apply for entry in October 2024, submit an application to the University which hosts the programme you wish to follow by the relevant funding deadline for your course. Any enquiries can be sent to: granduniondtp@socsci.ox.ac.uk
