The Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) is one of the world’s premier research institutions, ranked 77th globally (Shanghai Ranking, 2022). Founded by luminaries such as Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud, we’re at the forefront of cutting-edge research, entrepreneurship, and innovation in a broad range of fields, including brain sciences, medicine, biomedicine, life sciences, mathematics (ranked 17th worldwide) agriculture, humanities, social sciences, law (ranked 30th worldwide), and more.

Hebrew University strives for excellence in research. Our 6 campuses house 100+ research centers, where close to 4,000 research projects are underway year-round. HUJI’s distinguished researchers are recognized by awards of international acclaim, including 8 Nobel Prizes, the Fields Medal, the Turing Medal, and the Wolf Prize. Their accomplishments are also reflected in their high number of competitive research grants and publications in prestigious international journals. Yissum, HUJI’s tech transfer company, ranks 15th worldwide in the number of registered patents, and is responsible for marketing the technology and scientific know-how generated by HUJI researchers and students.

Our community comprises 25,000 students, 10% of which are international students representing 90 countries worldwide. A range of scholarship funding is available at HUJI for international PhD students, through supervisor research budgets, and internal and external funding schemes. Students in a thesis track in the experimental sciences are entitled to full tuition scholarships and living stipends.

In addition, as a PhD student you’ll benefit from social and logistical support through our Office of Student Life, and access to enriching social activities and cultural excursions.
