The PhD School of Life Sciences at the University of Geneva

The Faculties of Medicine and Science at the University of Geneva have joined forces in 2018 to create a new PhD School of Life Sciences. In this outstanding study and research environment, students enrol in one of 6 innovative and internationally competitive doctoral programs: Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biosciences, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Ecology and Evolution, Physics of Biology, and Genomics and Digital Health.

The PhD School’s working language is English. PhD studies generally last 4 years.

Eligibility criteria

In order to apply, you must hold or anticipate receiving a Master’s degree or equivalent from a university in a relevant field. You should have at least a B2 level of English.

Funding

All research groups within the PhD School provide financial support sufficient to cover the cost of living in Geneva. Applicants for Swiss Excellence fellowships are encouraged to apply directly to PIs if the fellowship deadline falls before the PhD School call deadline.

How to apply

There are two open calls per year, on April 15th (Summer Call) and November 15th (Winter Call), with PhD start dates in September/October and April/May, respectively. The next deadline is November 15th, 2021. Virtual interviews will be held in late December/early January, followed by on-site visits for shortlisted candidates.
