Toulouse School of Management Doctoral Programme

Toulouse School of Management Doctoral Programme

The Doctoral Programme at Toulouse School of Management is part of Toulouse Capitole University, one of the oldest and most renowned universities in France, and mixes aspects of a public research-intensive institution with an international approach to management education and strategic autonomy.

The programme combines the best of theory, practice and research methods with scholarly integrity. The courses are accompanied by research practice. Graduates pursue careers in leading universities and business schools, policy-oriented institutions and private firms.

Our candidates are passionately intellectual people who have a superlative academic record and are committed to a career in academia. Additionally, our 5-year Doctoral Programme is full-time and taught 100% in English.

This training immerses Ph.D candidates in all aspects of academic life. They contribute to original research, they make presentations at international academic conferences, they organise seminars, and they teach at undergraduate and occasionally postgraduate level. They are encouraged to participate in international visiting periods with universities outside of France to broaden the research scope and perspective.

Since 2020, the TSM Doctoral Programme is accredited by the European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) which confirms the quality of all facets of the programme: from its institutional, national and international environment, through its design, delivery, outcomes and impacts, to its quality assurance processes.

Programme overview

To follow international best practices, research at TSM begins in the second year of the Master, with a dedicated 1-year structured research programme resulting in a Masters of Science.

The later years of the doctoral programme are dedicated to original research and the creation of a Ph.D dissertation (through the MPhil coursework and research). Students are given the opportunity to develop their own rigorous and groundbreaking ideas. Throughout the entire programme all courses are conducted in English.

Ph.D. candidates participate in the life of the department, including seminars. They also present their research work in junior and senior workshops, and, finally, defend their dissertations.
