Tutor posts (Computing Science)

The Division of Computing Science and Mathematics is part of the Faculty of Natural Sciences (FNS). The FNS is a distinctive academic arena where new fundamental understandings of the complex and challenging inter-relationships between human behaviours, technologies, biological, environmental and aquatic systems are created, explored and tested.

The research strength of CS&M is underpinned by its inherent inter-disciplinary nature. This positions us well to exploit growing funding opportunities and to develop strong student interest beyond computing into applications in biological and biomedical systems, environmental and ecological systems, business and management, and societal issues. Our research has a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and it addresses key industrial and societal challenges in partnership with a wide network of collaborators from across industry, commerce and the public sector. Our research is led by 28 active researchers and is conducted in three complementary research groups: Data Science and Intelligent Systems, Biological Modelling, and Computational Mathematics; all have the common theme of investigating complex systems in uncertain and dynamic real world environments.

Post Details

We are seeking to appoint two new Tutors within the Division of Computing Science and Mathematics to start in autumn 2019. These are four-year fixed term posts, with duties being split 75% : 25% between research and teaching, with the requirement to register for a PhD to be completed within four years. These posts are open to computer science graduates with excellent first degrees and an interest in pursuing research on a topic related to the analysis of large or complex data.

The new posts are part of an exciting new University of Stirling initiative to strengthen its Computing Science research at the interface between data science and other areas of world-leading expertise within the University; as such the research is likely to be cross-disciplinary and impact-driven. The PhD research project will be developed and supervisors identified within the first few weeks of arrival in the department.

Description

Applicants should have an excellent first degree in Computer Science or an equivalent subject; it is essential that, given appropriate ongoing training and support, they will be able to assist with immediate effect within our undergraduate and taught masters programmes. The successful candidates will be expected to contribute to the strategic research aims of the Division over the course of the post, as well as to help deliver the taught programmes offered by the Division.
