University of Liverpool and Liverpool John Moores University PhD opportunities in Net Zero Maritime Energy Solutions (N0MES)

We are looking for PhD candidates interested in addressing real-world sustainability issues facing the UK and beyond. Our projects are diverse, multidisciplinary and driven by scientific endeavour, national priorities and industry need.

About The Centre

With the support of the University of Liverpool (UoL), Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) and 33 maritime energy sector partners, N0MES you will be pursuing new, engineering-centred, interdisciplinary research to address vital net zero challenges.

Theme A: Energy generation using maritime-based renewable energy (e.g. offshore wind, tidal, wave, floating solar, hydrogen, CCS)

Theme B: Distributing energy from offshore to onshore, including port- and hinterland-side impacts and opportunities

Theme C: Addressing the short- and long-term environmental impacts of offshore and maritime environment renewable energy generation, distribution and storage

Theme D: Decommissioning and lifetime extension of existing energy and facilities



All posts are full-time 4 year PhD projects fully-funded at EPSRC standard stipend rates (currently £18,901 p/a). All N0MES researchers will undertake a 1-year PGDip based at the University of Liverpool. Once completed successfully, you will progress onto your PhD project based at either UoL or LJMU.
