VC Scholarships in Faculty of Health and Wellbeing

Vice Chancellors PhD Scholarships are currently being offered within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing across which a rich variety of research takes place. PhDs are available in a number of key thematic areas across the faculty.

Funding is available for UK/EU applicants for either 36 months studying full time or 60 months studying part time.

Studentships will cover home/EU tuition fees plus a generous stipend equivalent to the full UKRI rate of £14,777 for full time students or 50% over 60 months for part time students.

International students will need to fund the shortfall of tuition fees each academic year (approx. £6200 per year)

The Biomolecular Sciences Research Centre (BMRC) is based within the Department of Biosciences and Chemistry and comprises of a number of research groups.

PhDs are available within the BMRC across the following 5 themes:

  • Theme B1: Disease mechanisms
  • Theme B2: Bioanalytical Science
  • Theme B3: Molecular Microbiology
  • Theme B4: Chemistry
  • Theme B5: Biomaterials

Research into Health and Social Care includes an extensive range of research, evaluation and development work in the field of health and social care, organised into a number of research groups.

PhDs are available within health and social care across the following 4 themes:

  • Theme H1: Cancer and Life Limiting Illness:
  • Theme H2: Public Health, Wellness and Community Care
  • Theme H3: Managing Mental and Physical Health
  • Theme H4: Education and Workforce Transformation

The Department of Sport conducts research in a number of key areas including Sports Science and Physical Activity, Sports Economics and Sports Engineering

PhDs are available within sport across the following 6 themes:

  • Theme S3: Economic and Social Impact of Sport
  • Theme S4: Elite Sport Development and Performance
  • Theme S5: Sport Data and Performance Analysis
  • Theme S6: Sports Injury Prevention

Application process

Visit the staff research profiles to find someone whose research interests complement your own and we recommend that you contact them with a potential project to see whether they can support your ideas. You can work up a project proposal with a prospective supervisor to ensure your research is aligned to the advertised research themes. However, the details of any successful project could potentially change, given input from the supervisory team.
