WRDTP ESRC PhD STUDENTSHIPS 2020/21

The White Rose Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership (WRDTP), accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council in 2016, is a collaboration across the social sciences at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield, York, Bradford, Sheffield Hallam, Hull, and Manchester Metropolitan.

The WRDTP supports a wide range of disciplinary and interdisciplinary scholarship, promotes and rewards excellence, and research training is delivered through seven Thematic Interdisciplinary Training Pathways:

  1. Cities, Environment, and Liveability (CEL)
  2. Security, Conflict, and Justice (SCJ)
  3. Education, Childhood, and Youth (ECY)
  4. Data, Communication, and New Technologies (DCT)
  5. Wellbeing, Health, and Communities (WHC)
  6. Sustainable Growth, Management, and Economic Productivity (SMP)
  7. Civil Society, Development, and Democracy (CDD)

The DTP is offering a range of social sciences PhD Studentships starting in September/October 2020.

The WRDTP invites applications for the following 13 fully funded ESRC WRDTP Collaborative Awards with a variety of non HEI partners:

In addition, the WRDTP also invites applications for the new White Rose Network Award:

Title of network: Urban citizenship and informality: New dynamics in the context of global urbanisation

Partners: Overseas Development Institute (ODI), JustFair
Pathway: Cities, Environment, And Liveability (CEL)

Studentship topic 1: Urban informality, public authorities and citizenship.
Studentship topic 2: Urban rights, citizenship and informality.
Studentship topic 3: Urban elites, informality and inequality.

HOW TO APPLY

Students do not apply to the DTP directly. All applicants MUST first contact the relevant school/department at the University in which they wish to study to be advised on how to then submit an application for a research degree programme (and Masters programme if applying via the 1+3 route) and also how to apply for an ESRC DTP PhD studentship/award.
