About the Programme

The Dean’s Global Research Award from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, will cover 50% of the international tuition fee for selected self-funded postgraduate research students. The award will apply for each year of study, up to 3 years maximum.

There are 14 Scholarships available for international doctoral students.

How to apply:

Candidates must first have an offer of admission, this is gained as follows:

1. International self-funded students should first apply for admission onto a postgraduate research programme via the chosen subject area. Subject areas can be found from the Faculty’s Graduate School page: https://www.strath.ac.uk/humanities/graduateschool/

2. Candidates must make contact with their potential supervisor. A list of supervisors can be found under each subject area.

3. Candidates must apply for October 2022 entry.

4. Candidates should enter “Dean’s Global Research Award” in the funding section of the application form.

5. Once a candidate has an offer of admission, and have accepted the offer, they may apply for the Dean’s Global Research Award.

Candidates must then apply for the award, as follows:

1. Supervisor’s supporting statement

The candidate should make contact by email with the member of Strathclyde University staff who is their potential primary supervisor and request a supporting statement which recommends them for this award. Potential supervisors’ areas of research expertise can be found on the PhD programme pages of each subject on the Strathclyde University website.

2. Candidate’s supporting statement

Candidates should also submit their own brief statement (350 words maximum), explaining why they wish to apply for the award, and their suitability, with reference to the above criteria.

Candidates are required to submit both the supporting statements to hass-scholarships@strath.ac.uk by the closing date of 27th April 2022.



Funding Notes

50% of the international tuition fee, approximately £7,575 per year (3 years in total Applicants should be self-funded. This award cannot be combined with another University award. Applicants should have an excellent academic record – preferably, a First Class undergraduate degree, or equivalent (students with an Upper Second Class degree, or equivalent, may apply), and/or a Master’s degree with Distinction / Merit or overseas equivalent. Applicants should have strong research potential (evidenced by their research proposal, academic achievements and the academic reference letters submitted with the online application).
