Postgraduate programmes

A research Master's degree is studied over one year full-time while a PhD involves extended study over three or four years. We also offer a selection of conversion programmes within the division to develop your skills and improve your career prospects.

The division consists of the following Schools:

Kent Law School

Kent Law School is a dynamic and cosmopolitan place to study a variety of taught (Master's/LLM) and research degrees (LLM by Research and PhD) with an international and contemporary focus.

You are immersed in a culture of critical research within the School, which is widely regarded as a centre of excellence in legal research and training.

School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research

Our programmes offer you specialist knowledge in your chosen area of social science and an advanced level of skills. Some programmes can be taken at Diploma or Certificate level before proceeding to Master’s level. Working professionals may be interested in the programmes we offer via distance learning.

All postgraduate students have access to office space with computing facilities. PhD students may have the opportunity to teach part-time within the School

Centre for Journalism

Postgraduate programmes in the Centre for Journalism give you the chance to research and learn in an environment that instils excellence in the practice of convergent, multimedia journalism. The range of professional interests in the Centre means we can offer wide scope for research supervision.

The Centre is professionally accredited by the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) and has work placement and scholarship agreements with partners including Sky News, Associated Newspapers and the Kent Messenger Group. See our professional recognition page for more information.
