    Funded PhD Programme (Students Worldwide)

Profile Description

Fixed-term for 6 years starting September 2020 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The University of Sheffield's Department of Landscape Architecture is seeking to appoint two Doctoral Associates to support the future work in the Department in teaching and research. The Doctoral associate position is a six-year development pathway for new Lecturers, allowing the post-holder to undertake a part-time PhD in 50% of their role whilst teaching in the other 50%. The successful candidates will be mentored into the teaching role and supported in evidencing their experience and development through Advance HE (formerly Higher Education Academy) accreditation. They will also work collaboratively with a team of doctoral supervisors who will guide and support candidates in the PhD programme, to help you develop as an independent researcher. Research skills training is also provided through the University's Doctoral Development Programme

We are seeking applications from ambitious, highly motivated and talented individuals with a commitment to landscape architecture, who are seeking intellectual challenge and who will play an active role in building on the Department's international track record in research, teaching excellence and innovation. We are looking for two individuals who are interested in contributing to the delivery of teaching and research in the fields of landscape design and landscape management respectively, but would also encourage applicants with other landscape specialisms and/or a wider range of interests in landscape architecture to apply. We would like you to bring your practical experience and enthusiasm into the classroom to enhance our student experience whilst we support you in the development of your ambitious and successful personal research agenda. You should have a good honours degree and/or Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture or a closely related discipline.

Applicants should indicate their field of research interest in their application and also attach a research proposal outlining the topic, question(s) being addressed, methodology and contribution to theory and practice with reference to existing literature (word limit 1500 words). All applicants should also attach a CV, and a portfolio of relevant projects/reports or other outputs completed as part of a degree programme or in practice. Before applying applicants may wish to contact staff in the Department who might act as potential PhD supervisors with a view to developing ideas for their PhD projects.

We're one of the best not-for-profit organisations to work for in the UK. The University's Total Reward Package includes a competitive salary, a generous Pension Scheme and annual leave entitlement, as well as access to a range of learning and development courses to support your personal and professional development.

We build teams of people from different heritages and lifestyles whose talent and contributions complement each other to greatest effect. We believe diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact through research, teaching and student experience.
