Unit: Faculty of Business and Law (FBL)

Stipend: £15,009 (circa) per year

Location: Milton Keynes

The Open University Business and Law Schools invite applications for a number of full-time funded PhD studentships beginning 1 February 2020. You will join a vibrant environment of students and academics in the Faculty of Business and Law who conduct research of the highest international standard that has economic, public and social value consistent with the mission of the Open University. You will work with subject specialists and have the opportunity to develop your skills in research communication, engagement and impact.

Your application should preferably be based on one of the advertised projects described at http://business-school.open.ac.uk/research/research-degrees/phd-studentships. In addition to these advertised projects, we are currently calling for proposals on ‘Responding to the Climate Emergency'. This themed call is for research that addresses the legal and organisational challenges posed by climate change. The Open University has a strong track record in this area, including high-profile OU/BBC co-productions such as, Blue Planet and The Bottom Line, podcast series and open educational resources. Other topics may be considered subject to supervision availability.

PhD studentships are based on full-time study for three years at the Milton Keynes campus. Students are normally expected to live within commuting distance of Milton Keynes. Studentships cover tuition fees, a generous research training support grant and a stipend (circa £15,009 per annum) for 36 months.

Applicants should have minimum qualifications of an upper second class honours degree 2:1 (or equivalent) and usually a specialist masters in a subject relevant to the intended study with a strong research element.

Your application should comprise a 1000-word research proposal and a covering letter outlining your suitability for your chosen project. We must also receive a completed application form and copies of relevant degree certificates and transcripts before we can consider your application.

Further details of individual projects and how to apply can be found on the Business School website. http://business-school.open.ac.uk/research/research-degrees/phd-studentships
