 Funded PhD Programme (Students Worldwide)

About the Programme

Applications are invited for a funded three-year PhD in School of Architecture to commence in October 2023.

The University of Portsmouth is investing in a number of funded PhD bursaries that underpin our commitment to research and the impact our research makes. In the Portsmouth School of Architecture, Faculty of Creative and Cultural Industries, we value both typical and interdisciplinary PhD proposals that are aligned with one or more of the specialist areas of expertise and might also cross with other departments’ research in our Faculty and/or in the University.

The Portsmouth School of Architecture offers a wide range of expertise in sustainable and environmental design, place making, landscape and urban design, cultural heritage and conservation, architecture and interior histories and theories, computational and analogue design, and spatial practices. We encourage research via different approaches including practice-based and practice-led research and we value research investigations which demonstrate impact and that contribute to and are supported by external stakeholders. Therefore, we encourage PhD proposals that aim to collaborate with external organisations and communities and demonstrate impact on non-academic domains.
